Biography
Kartal Tibet (27 March 1939, Ankara - 1 July 2021) was a Turkish actor, director, screenwriter and producer. He took part in nearly two hundred movies and TV series as actor, director and screenwriter. In cinema, he first played the lead role in the comic book adaptations Karaoğlan and Tarkan adventure films. In the 1970s, he shared the lead roles with many actors including Hülya Koçyiğit, Türkan Şoray, Fatma Girik, Hale Soygazi and Filiz Akın. Tibet made his directorial debut in 1977 with Tosun Pasha and directed 56 films, more than twenty of which starred Kemal Sunal. He also wrote the screenplays for films such as Davaro, Şendul Şaban and Şabaniye. He was awarded the Golden Orange Film Festival Lifetime Honor Award in 2002 and the Yıldırım Önal Memorial Award in 2006 for his contributions to Turkish cinema. He died on July 1, 2021 in Istanbul at the age of 82.
